How to Install WoW Addons Manually

We are reader-supported. When you buy through our links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

Most of the addons for World of Warcraft we download from curseforge.com. The easiest way to install the addon is with Twitch App (previously Curse Client). The app is for computers and WoW laptops with Windows and MacOS operating systems. Very easy to use.

But there are many addons, not included in Curse repository, not being able to install via the App automatically. Or maybe you don’t want to use the Twitch App at all. You can install them manually, this is why I wrote this guide to help you out.

First of all, you need to exit WoW. This is because all the addons are loaded after you login to your account.

Download the Addon

Let’s say we want to install Deadly Boss Mods (DBM), the most popular addon for dungeons and raids. We go to https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons and download it.

Then the download window pops up asking if you want to open the file or save it. Let’s just save it on the desktop.

Next, you need to extract the .zip file. It can be open without any program within Windows. Although I prefer using 7-Zip software for all the archive types including .zip. If you are on a Mac, just double click and it will extract automatically.

The last thing you need to do is to copy into the WoW Addons folder.

In Windows, by default, it is located here:

C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns

…and on a Mac:

Macintosh HD/Applications/World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns

Now we just need to copy the content of the archive into the AddOns folder. In this example, there are many folders starting with DBM. We move or copy all the folders directly inside AddOns folder:

That’s it.

Next time you launch World of Warcraft there is a button AddOns in the lower left corner of character selection screen. If you click it opens a window with all the addons loaded.
