One day an acquaintance of mine came to visit me with a specific question. He asked me for a favor to help him find a good and affordable 2-in-1 laptop (or convertible.. or hybrid, as you will). He’s a sales manager in one of the local companies who has to travel a lot for business meetings and such. So he spends lots of time in airports, planes, trains, hotels… Being also a passionate gamer, he would like to have a 2-in-1 laptop with a dedicated (or discrete) GPU, and NVIDIA to be more specific. So he could play some games a bit during the business trips when he has nothing to do. So I made a research and compiled him a list of 5 best 2-in-1 laptops with NVIDIA graphic card.

What is the best 2-in-1 laptop with dedicated NVIDIA GPU?

Apart from having a dedicated NVIDIA GPU, there are some components that are a “must-have”.

  • The first component is a storage drive. Traditional HDDs are becoming obsolete. They are just slow and unreliable nowadays and can only be served as a second disk for storage space. Absolutely not for your system partition. So having an SSD drive is A MUST.
  • A clear picture is also a priority, so FULL HD (1920 x 1080) display resolution is recommended.

Other components such as CPU, GPU and RAM are also important. But nowadays all the laptops are fast enough for casual gaming, so it doesn’t matter much whether it has an i5 or i7 processor.

1. Acer Spin 5

CPU: Intel Core i7-8550U  GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 4GB  |  SCREEN: 15.6″ Full HD (1920 x 1080), IPS, Touchscreen with Stylus Support  |  RAM: 8GB DDR4  STORAGE: 1TB HDD

Great performance for the price
No SSD, however it’s upgradeable with a free M.2 slot

Actually, I couldn’t find any better gaming tablet for under $1k. The only drawback is having an old HDD. I really don’t understand the purpose of stuffing these spinning disks into a highly portable tablet-like laptop. In my opinion, it’s utterly ridiculous. However, there is a free NVMe M.2 slot in there. So it can easily be upgraded with an SSD drive, for example, this one: WD Blue SN500 500GB NVMe Internal SSD

If you are not that much into tinkering, you may also look at Acer Nitro 5 Spin  model. It has all the munchies of a gaming laptop. But it’s a bit pricier.

2. ASUS ZenBook Flip 14

CPU: Intel Core i7-8565U  GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GeForce MX150 2GB  |  SCREEN: 14″ Full HD (1920 x 1080), Touchscreen with Stylus Support  |  RAM: 16GB LPDDR3  STORAGE: 512GB PCIe Nvme SSD

If you prefer a 2-in-1 laptop to be a bit smaller and lightweight, this is the one. Of course the NVIDIA GeForce MX150 inside is not ment to be as a high-end gaming GPU, though it can certainly provide an enjoyable experience. Lots of well-optimized, popular games should be more than playable.

Small and lightweight
Good battery life
Not having GeForce GTX series

3. Lenovo Yoga 2-in-1

CPU: Intel Core i7-8550U  GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 4GB  |  SCREEN: 15.6″ UHD (3840 x 2160), Touchscreen with Stylus Support  |  RAM: 16GB DDR4  STORAGE: 512GB PCIe SSD

This Lenovo Yoga could have easily been called a portable workstation. There is a powerful GeForce GTX 1050 inside and combined with a Ultra High Definition display makes it a perfect 2-in-1 laptop for artists and casual gamers.

4. HP Spectre x360 2-in-1

CPU: Intel Core i7-8565U  GRAPHICS: GeForce MX150 2GB  |  SCREEN: 15.6″ UHD (3840 x 2160), IPS, Touchscreen with Stylus Support  |  RAM: 16GB DDR4  STORAGE: 512 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD

This laptop caught my eye not only because of its performance but the design as well. This is one of the most beautiful pieces of technology I came across. Although it doesn’t have a GTX GPU it makes a perfect portable workstation as well. Also because of the UHD display.

Design and build quality
Not having a GTX series

5. Microsoft Surface Book 2

CPU: Intel Core i7-8650U  GRAPHICS: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB  |  SCREEN: 15.0″ 3240 x 2160, Touchscreen with Stylus Support  |  RAM: 16GB LPDDR3  STORAGE: 256GB PCIe SSD

Okay, and the last one is the famous Surface Book 2, designed and produced by Microsoft. I intentionally left it to be a last on the list. I admit, my opinion may be biased, as I have been a very satisfied Surface user right from the very first model of Surface Pro which came out in 2013.

It is a bit different from the other four 2-in-1 laptops. All the previous ones use a so-called “360° flip-and-fold design”, but Surface Book 2 has a detachable screen (or keyboard if you wish 🙂 ).

It has an integrated Intel GPU inside the screen part and the powerful NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 in the body. And it switches automatically when you attach/detach the screen.

If you are on a budget, by all means, go for it. It has just everything you want from a 2-in-1 laptop.

Powerfull GTX 1060
Detachable screen (okay, for some may be a con)

Conclusion

Once again, if you can afford, go for Surface Book 2  and become a satisfied Surface user as well. Like me 🙂

Otherwise, you may want to ask yourself whether you want a bit better GPU (the ones with GTX graphics) or you prefer to be a bit smaller and more portable. It is just a matter of personal choice.

I hope it helps, take care. 🙂
