More about ASC...
Awards
The Tibbetts Award for outstanding entrepreneurship was presented to
ASC during the SBA's first annual selection in 1996. NASA recognized ASC
with the Excellence in Engineering award for the Northeast Region in 1997.
Standards
ASC supports the worldwide EDA standards development process through
internal research aimed at producing better design methodologies.
Alex N. D. Zamfirescu, VP Engineering serves as IEC USNC Technical
Adviser for DA Standards, where he proposed a workshop on XML in
EDA (to be tentatively hosted by NIST in May 2000). To further broaden
advocacy for the use of XML in EDA, Mr. Zamfirescu joined the ebXML
(United Nations-OASIS) technical architecture team.
HXML
In 1998 ASC and its consultants at Orionic pioneered a technology
based on combining XML with the HDLs used in EDA even before anybody
knew what exactly XML meant. At that time, for example, the SI2
ECIX effort was still based on SGML, and nobody accepted the idea
that XML is meant for exchange of EDA data. At DAC '99 ASC demonstrated
how schematics can be displayed out of XML files. The use of XML
in EDA is catching on. For example, see http://www.eet.com/story/OEG20000215S0014
published in early 2000.
